Noise regulations threatens Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt Airport which is engaged in a fierce competition with rivals in Europe and the Middle East, is threatened by tighter noise regulation.

”An even more stringent regulations would be very problematic, as we already have the rules of night flight restrictions and the hardest rules of all international ”hubs ”, warned Stefan Schulte, the CEO of Fraport, operator of Frankfurt airport, at a press conference

Number #1 airport in Germany and third in Europe, Frankfurt is already subject to an interruption of night flights for six hours, from 23 pm and 5 am, following a court decision in 2012 due to several residents associations complaining of noise.

A coalition agreement signed last week between the conservative CDU and environmentalists to govern together in Hessen, where Frankfurt is located , however plans to tighten the rules.
